How UAE is using Technology for Healthcare

Healthcare in UAE

Dubai serves one of the best public healthcare systems in the world. They strive to provide a high-quality standard of medical care to all patients. Both public and private healthcare are run by the Dubai Health Authority (DHA). There are four major government hospitals in the Emirate: Dubai, Rashid, Latina and Haffa. It offers services to both inpatients and outpatients.

The healthcare industry is forced to shift to better models of value-based care (VBC) due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To assist in the diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of patients, technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), the internet of things (IoT) and data analytics are being used.

With the help of these technologies, it has made it easier to access healthcare for immediate patience in a safe environment. These technologies not only help during the pandemic it can also be of great use after the recovery for other sectors as well.

Use of innovations to improve healthcare

The UAE government health institution and healthcare planners are seeking ways to provide smarter and faster technology for the people. UAE aims to make the healthcare sector to be the most advanced system in the world. To enable people to access the best healthcare options available. Here are some of the latest innovations that play a major role in contributing to the healthcare systems:

  • Artificial intelligence:

This greatly helps over traditional analytics and clinical decision-making techniques. Training data, treatment variability, care processes, possible outcomes of diagnostics and patient outcomes can be more accurate and to the point.

  • VR/AV

Virtual reality and augmented reality are producing tools that are in great demand for patient and training engagement.

  • Robotics

The use of robotics can be in assistance for surgeries, drug dispensers, patient care and support and have the abilities and control of human surgeons. With the COVID-19, robotics can be of great advantage to help with isolation and protecting health workers from the contagious virus.

  • Blockchain

It has a variety of applications and uses in the healthcare system. It helps to transfer patient medical records with security and privacy. Healthcare researchers are also able to find the genetic codes through blockchains.

  • VBC:

Value-based care seeks to provide positive outcomes for patients. To assist healthcare organizations to be more efficient, decrease arrows and improve the quality of assessments.

  • Internet of things(IoT):

IoT has made it easier to monitor remotely and keep the patients safe and healthy in the best possible way. Also, assist the physicians to give their best services. Wireless devices such as blood pressure and heart rate monitoring cuffs, glucometers have made it easy for patients to access personally. As for physicians they can track patients’ health records using home monitoring equipment. Whereas for hospitals use of wheelchairs, defibrillators and oxygen pumps are of great use.

Measures are taken to improve healthcare

  • The ministry of health (MoH) created a new electronic healthcare information system that connects all the MoH hospitals and clinics in Dubai. The system created is known as “Wareed”. This system enables the store to store all the patient’s information and allows physicians to access their medical history and patient records. To connect with online consultation, patients have the medical ID they can access and use the information to talk to their physician. This technology system ensures that it reduces any errors, prevents duplicating prescriptions and improves health safety and efficiency.
  • 24/7 Doc service: the government of Abu Dhabi has established a telemedicine Centre available 24/7. Healthcare workers and general staff are training to practice telemedicine and help the patients as per their needs. The same medical methods are used for the diagnosis process thus eliminating the need for a clinic setting. A free mobile application, Telemed, is available for all people for online consultation. They can also send pictures of any medication or affected areas or other related information to be more precise. Patients can now receive treatment while they are at home.
  • The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) has also taken measures to keep people connected with healthcare information. Using apps such as Tummy Fish, Smart Toothbrush are for children, encouraging them to be healthy, hydrated and how to brush correctly and more. Doctors are also given a smartphone app to access the Rashid Medical Library for their studies, references, books, medicines to assist their education.

Overall, it shows that Dubai is striving to make the best healthcare system possible for all the people living. To access healthcare systems easily from home and eliminate any possible errors. The government plays an important role in creating new technologies for their healthcare systems.
